The cable radio Filodiffusione

Filodiffusione is a cable network created in 1958 thanks to an alliance between RAI and SIP (the Italian National Telephone Company).

At the time of its first transmission, on January 4th 1959, Filodiffusione was using telephone lines to broadcast three already operating Radio Channels, and two specifically created channels (IV and V), specializing respectively in popular and classical music (broadcasting now 24 hours a day.)

Channel V "Auditorium" broadcasts Classical Music and owes much of its uniqueness in the fact that it has access to the RAI Historical Archives, which are a treasure of thousands of recordings of Chamber Music, Orchestral and Operatic works.

Today "Filodiffusione" can be heard not only through the Telecom Network using a special decoder (reaching about two million listeners daily), but also through the satellite Hot Bird II, 13° East, (11.804,200 Mhz, polar. Y vertical)
The V Channel can also be heard on FM, in the italian cities of Turin ( 101.80 Mhz), Milan ( 102.20 MHZ ) Rome ( 100.30 Mhz) and Naples ( 103.9 Mhz ).

Also, you can listen to Filodiffusione on this Web site (using Real Audio and Windows Media Player).
